Chocolatier BOM - August

Posted by Brenda Ratliff on Aug 21, 2017 11:44:00 AM

Hi everyone!

Each month we will be sharing the current Chocolatier Block with you - we're grateful you've chosen to sew with us!

For all of the blocks in the Chocolatier quilt, we recommend pressing all seams open. Some of the pieces in these blocks can get small and pressing open can help reduce bulk when multiple seams collide.

June's blocks are called Rosebud and Arbor Window and use lots of little pieces, so precision is key! We'll be making one of each block.

Like most months, we're starting off with HST units. those will be attached to a Chocolate triangle. Make 4 of these shapes.

Next, sew the rows to the White Polka Dot and Yellow fabric. This will make a 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" square.

Be VERY careful pressing these shapes. you can see that my block became a little distorted.

Arbor Window is a simple block. Make sure all your squares are the cut well; this will really help your block turn out.
Carefully trim the block to 6 1/2" x 6 1/2"When you've finished this month's blocks, hop on over to Instagram and show them off using the hashtags #chocolatiersampler and #PCFchocolatier - we love seeing what you make!

See you next month! - Kara

December

A secret garden in December, the pull for this month is all about happy yellow, fresh greens, and sweet pinks. Bees, squirrels and unicorns anchor a palette that's touched with a little gold to gild the theoretical lily.

January

It's a jungle out there-- Lagoon leaves, giant fish, and elephants meander among vermillion, turquoise, and bright blue. A little pale pink and neutral sand keeps things from going too crazy, but Beauty Shop's manicured hands will probaby be your favorite thing to fussy cut.

July's blocks are called Rail Fence and 8-Pointed Star and use strip piecing and templates. We'll be making one of each block.

First we will sew 2 strips together to create these long strips. Next, cut the strips 2 1/2" wide. Layout the block and follow the instructions to complete the block.

This next block is a little bit more involved, so take your time to be precise.

AnneMarie provides detailed instructions, so follow along!

Finished!

I really love the Fusion collections and I'm glad that the folks at Art Gallery have decided to create more. In these 10 print collections, AGF has taken the most popular prints from past collections and recolored them in a coordinating palette. This gives a curated look to the bundle with prints from multiple designers.

Amy Sinibaldi has two collections in this half of the year! Her lines are part of the new Angles division at Art Gallery. The Angles lines are only 16 prints (so we will be adding in some coordinating basic prints to round out the collections. These collections contain more geometric prints and modern colors but still look great with the painterly florals we are used to from Art Gallery Fabrics.

And, of course, it wouldn't be the same with out big florals and boho styles from Pat Bravo and Bari J. This is going to be a great 6 months of fabrics!

Chocolatier BOM - June

Posted by Brenda Ratliff on Jun 21, 2017 11:12:00 AM

Hi everyone!

Each month we will be sharing the current Chocolatier Block with you - we're grateful you've chosen to sew with us!

For all of the blocks in the Chocolatier quilt, we recommend pressing all seams open. Some of the pieces in these blocks can get small and pressing open can help reduce bulk when multiple seams collide.

June's blocks are called Card Trick and Bleeding Heart and uses half-square triangles and applique techniques. We'll be making one of each block.

First, we'll be making 4 HST. Make sure to square them up to 2 1/2" x 2 1/2"!

Next we'll make Hourglass units. Square them up to 2 1/2" x 2 1/2"

The Triangle Units are made by sewing a Quarter Square Triangle to a Half Square Triangle.

Layout the squares and then sew them together. Now on to applique!
Use the template found inside the pattern and cut out the pieces.

Fuse template A to the block and then fold diagonally and finger press. This will help you place the next piece.

Blanket stitch around the caramel arc before placing the yellow tulips.

Finally, applique the tulip shape. Finished!
We're half way there!

When you've finished this month's blocks, hop on over to Instagram and show them off using the hashtags #chocolatiersampler and #PCFchocolatier - we love seeing what you make!

See you next month! - Kara
