Chocolatier BOM - August

Hi everyone!

Each month we will be sharing the current Chocolatier Block with you - we're grateful you've chosen to sew with us!

For all of the blocks in the Chocolatier quilt, we recommend pressing all seams open. Some of the pieces in these blocks can get small and pressing open can help reduce bulk when multiple seams collide.

June's blocks are called Rosebud and Arbor Window and use lots of little pieces, so precision is key! We'll be making one of each block.

Like most months, we're starting off with HST units. those will be attached to a Chocolate triangle. Make 4 of these shapes.

Next, sew the rows to the White Polka Dot and Yellow fabric. This will make a 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" square.

Be VERY careful pressing these shapes. you can see that my block became a little distorted.

Arbor Window is a simple block. Make sure all your squares are the cut well; this will really help your block turn out.
Carefully trim the block to 6 1/2" x 6 1/2"When you've finished this month's blocks, hop on over to Instagram and show them off using the hashtags #chocolatiersampler and #PCFchocolatier - we love seeing what you make!

See you next month! - Kara

Hi everyone!

For all of the blocks in the Chocolatier quilt, we recommend pressing all seams open. Some of the pieces in these blocks can get small and pressing open can help reduce bulk when multiple seams collide.

July's blocks are called Rail Fence and 8-Pointed Star and use strip piecing and templates. We'll be making one of each block.

First we will sew 2 strips together to create these long strips. Next, cut the strips 2 1/2" wide. Layout the block and follow the instructions to complete the block.

This next block is a little bit more involved, so take your time to be precise.

AnneMarie provides detailed instructions, so follow along!

Finished!

June's blocks are called Card Trick and Bleeding Heart and uses half-square triangles and applique techniques. We'll be making one of each block.

First, we'll be making 4 HST. Make sure to square them up to 2 1/2" x 2 1/2"!

Next we'll make Hourglass units. Square them up to 2 1/2" x 2 1/2"

The Triangle Units are made by sewing a Quarter Square Triangle to a Half Square Triangle.

Layout the squares and then sew them together. Now on to applique!
Use the template found inside the pattern and cut out the pieces.

Fuse template A to the block and then fold diagonally and finger press. This will help you place the next piece.

Blanket stitch around the caramel arc before placing the yellow tulips.

Finally, applique the tulip shape. Finished!
We're half way there!

Chocolatier BOM - May

Hi everyone!

Each month we will be sharing the current Chocolatier Block with you - we're grateful you've chosen to sew with us!

For all of the blocks in the Chocolatier quilt, we recommend pressing all seams open. Some of the pieces in these blocks can get small and pressing open can help reduce bulk when multiple seams collide.

May's blocks are called Double X 1915 and Nine Patch Star and use Half Square Triangles and Paper Piecing techniques. We'll be making one of each block.

First, we'll be making 10 HST. Make sure to square them up to 2"x2"

Lay out the bock and then stitch squares together as shown in the pattern.

Now we're on to Paper Piecing! If your new to this technique, I recommend reading through all the instructions first, then carefully work through each step. You'll have enough fabric to make a few extras if you mess up.

AnneMarie also recommends this video by Crafty Gemini explaining Paper Piecing.

And there we have it - our fifth month of blocks are complete!
