Maybe you’ve heard about Glamp Stitchalot and wondered what it is, or maybe you’re a returning Glamper curious about what’s new this year. Here, I’ve compiled all the most frequently asked questions into one place, giving you a chance to peruse the details about Glamp Stitchalot. There will be additional articles posted in the next few weeks about the teachers and specific projects at Glamp 2018, so this is really a general FAQ about everything else.
What is Glamp Stitchalot? Glamp Stitchalot is a quilting retreat where four professional instructors each teach a class on fun, unique projects. It is hosted by Pink Castle Fabrics and focuses on modern quilt styles and techniques.
Where is Glamp Stitchalot hosted? in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the Sheraton Hotel. The Sheraton is located at: 3200 Boardwalk Street. Ann Arbor, MI 48108-1774, United States.
When is Glamp? November 8 (Thursday,) 9 (Friday,) and 10 (Saturday,) 2018.
What’s included with each ticket? Classes with all 4 instructors, open sew time, and these meals: Thursday night dinner, breakfast/lunch/dinner both Friday and Saturday, and light breakfast on Sunday morning. We also provide rotary cutters/mats and irons at every ironing station.
What’s not included with each ticket? Hotel room, snacks, transportation, fabric/notions, and sewing machines.
Do I need to book my own hotel room? Yes– you are responsible for your lodging and transportation during Glamp Stitchalot. We highly recommend reserving a room to stay on site at the Sheraton Ann Arbor (3200 Boardwalk Street) and take advantage of the Glamp Stitchalot room block. If you choose not to stay at the Sheraton, there are several other nearby hotels, though you will be responsible for your transportation to the Sheraton each day for Glamp.
Do I need to bring my own sewing machine? There are two options for sewing machines at Glamp Stitchalot. You may bring your own machine, OR rent a Janome Skyline S7. For $40, you get the S7 at your station for the duration of Glamp and we take care of the setup/take down. This is a great option if you don’t wish to fly with your machine or would like to try out a Skyline S7.
How much does it cost? $575 per ticket.
I’d love to attend, but it’s not in my budget right now. Is a payment plan available? Yes! Click here to see the best plan for your budget.
What skill level is required for the classes? Beginners and up! Glamp Stitchalot classes are designed to teach you the projects start to finish. That said, you must be familiar with basic sewing concepts in order to keep up with the class: rotary cutting on a mat, how to use your sewing machine, how to sew seams together, ironing, and basic hand sewing techniques.
How long are the classes? Each teacher’s class is 3 hours long. You’ll take two classes on Friday and two classes on Saturday for a total of 4 classes, one with each teacher.
Is there open sewing time and “downtime” to relax? Yes! You’re welcome to sew in the morning after the room is opened, between classes, during meals, and into the evening after dinner (usually the sewing room is open until about 10pm.) There’s plenty of time to work on class or personal sewing projects, chat with friends, play cards, explore Ann Arbor, take a nap, grab a cocktail, or shop in the pop up shop.
What do I need to bring with me? About 4-5 months prior to Glamp Stitchalot, you’ll be emailed a packing list with all the required fabric and notions needed for each class. We’ll do our best to stock all needed materials at pinkcastlefabrics.com so you can purchase what you need and pick it up when you arrive at Glamp.
Will there be a Pink Castle Fabrics pop up shop in the hotel? Yes! The pop up shop will be a mini fabric store right in the Sheraton where you can purchase fabric bundles and precuts, notions, patterns, batting, rulers, needles, bobbins, thread, and other fun little goodies just for Glamp.
I have food allergies. Will there be meal options for me? Prior to Glamp, you’ll be sent a food limitations survey to fill out so we can notify the kitchen staff. We always try to be accommodating of food sensitivities including nut, gluten, dairy, and soy allergies, as well as offer vegetarian and vegan food options.
Are there classes/open sewing on Sunday morning? No, the room will be closed for take down. Sunday morning there will be a light breakfast provided before you head home.
I loved using my Janome Skyline S7 during Glamp. Can I buy it? Absolutely. Glamp is a great opportunity to “test drive” a new sewing machine, and take advantage of special event pricing on all machines, not just the S7.
Will there be patterns provided for all the projects so I can recreate them at home? Yes– each guest will be given a booklet containing all the patterns from the event, as well as a goody bag full of fun surprises from our sponsors.
How can I connect with all my new friends after Glamp? The Glamp Stitchalot Facebook Group is a great place to “meet up” with your fellow glampers post event! You can also follow the Instagram hashtag #glampstitchalot2018 to see photos of finished projects and all the fun pictures taken during the event.
